Why Advisers Should Embrace AI Now

I run a training business, not a mortgage firm, but I have been using Microsoft Copilot for over a year, and it has transformed how I work. The fundamental shift came when Copilot connected with GPT-5 and learned to read everything in my OneDrive, Teams, and Outlook. I have 25 years of content, and I turned it all into a living, breathing library I can search, summarise and reuse in seconds. No more digging through old folders or guessing where a document might be hiding. It has been a genuine game-changer for productivity and creativity.

Recently, I interviewed a newly qualified adviser who has adopted Copilot as part of her daily routine. We worked together after she passed her exams and joined her network for CAS. She told me she did not expect it to be this good. Copilot felt like a calm assistant in the background, making sure nothing slipped through the cracks.

She uses it to prepare for client meetings in minutes. It pulls together the latest messages and promised actions so she walks in feeling organised rather than overwhelmed. It helps her keep her compliance notes tidy and consistent, which is invaluable when you are new and building confidence. It sorts her leads, drafts her follow-ups, and keeps warm opportunities from going cold. It even organises her documents and e-signature packs so clients feel the momentum.

I also discovered just how powerful the underlying language model really is. Copilot uses the same large-scale GPT intelligence that powers ChatGPT, but it runs entirely inside my Microsoft environment. It understands natural language, tidies up my writing, generates ideas and summarises massive amounts of information without any of it ever leaving my private and secure Microsoft tenant.

There is plenty of AI coming from software providers in our sector, some useful and some less so. We all need to be wary of duplication and overpaying. My mantra has always been to select long-lasting software and learn it thoroughly rather than dipping in and out of several.

For advisers and compliance officers, that is the key difference. You get world-class AI, but it only works with the confidential data you already own and control.

If you are still unsure, the best advice I can give is simple. Commit to trying it.
